What is an annuity

An annuity is a low-risk product that guarantees a regular income, either for a fixed term or for life.

They can be purchased with superannuation savings, or with personal savings by individuals companies, trusts or funds.

Annuities suit customers looking for a reliable income in retirement, a conservative product that provides guaranteed regular payments, estate planning certainty and the chance to maximise social security entitlements. Customers can choose to receive payments monthly, quarterly, half-yearly or yearly.

Key benefits

  • Income that’s guaranteed. Receive ongoing payments for life, regardless of market conditions.
  • Flexible structuring. You specify the payment frequency of the annuity, withdrawal options and beneficiaries
  • Tax-free income. When over 60 and purchasing with super, you’re not required to pay tax on annuity income.
  • Boost your pension. Only 60% of the value of a lifetime annuity is counted under Centrelink means testing, which may help you qualify for a higher Age Pension.
  • Unlock your investment. An optional withdrawal period allows you to access capital, and you can pass a guaranteed death benefit onto loved ones should you die early.
  • Inflation protection. Payments rise to keep up with cost of living, locking in purchasing power.
  • No hidden costs. With no ongoing fees or hidden costs, your transparent and clearly structured investment is protected from erosion.
